Review: Metallica - Master Of Puppets

Metallica

Master Of Puppets

Elektra

By 1986 Metallica’s massive cult following had erupted into to an arena-sized frenzy. With two albums under their belt including their epic debut, Kill 'Em All, no one had any idea of the masterpiece that was looming. Their third album,Master of Puppets, is chopped full with heavy metal anthems that somehow have managed to stay relevant to this day. It’s the speed and rebellious energy in songs like ‘Leper Messiah’ and ‘Damage Inc.’ that keeps them current and not trapped in the pass.

Master of Puppets stands out form the rest of the band’s discography because their songwriting is stepped up a gear. Kirk Hammett churns out his guitar solos in songs like ‘Orion’ and ‘Master of Puppets’ as if he’s mesmerized every note. The songs are so technical that it almost sounds like classical music. Metallica are now a touring entity and have inspired thousands of metal bands such as Machine Head with their thunderous chops. Their legend is continued in the rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

9.2/10
